Indiana sends four to ACHA All-Star game in Philadelphia Print E-mail

While they didn’t have the season to remember, the Hoosiers didn’t lack in positive results, as four players will be representing the team and the GMHL in the ACHA All-Star Challenge.

Adam Logue, Adam Fishbein, Brandon Dornish and Justin Lincoln will all jet out to Philadelphia, Pa., for the GMHL all-star team. They will play four games against other conferences in the ACHA. The tournament will be played April 3-5 at Ice Line Ice Arena.

Dornish, a Pittsburgh, Pa., native, will get to return to his home state for the games.

“It’ll be fun,” Dornish said. “It’s always nice to be honored, and to get some reward for what you put in.”

The junior defenseman played in all-star games in high school, but never at the collegiate level. He said he will enjoy playing in the state where he lives.

“My family is going to go out there, so it’ll be a nice way to finish off the year,” he said. “Getting to play in front of my family will be nice, since they don’t usually get to come out here to see the games.”

For senior and team captain Adam Fishbein, this will be his final farewell as a hockey player.

“It’s exciting to get recognized,” Fishbein said. “It’s an honor to be playing with some of those guys that are going to be on that team, and it should be a lot of fun.”

Fishbein said he was a three-time all-state player in Maryland, but this will be his first all-star game since he has been at IU. He doesn’t think the game will be as serious as a regular game, but since the leagues are competing against each other, he said bragging rights will be on the line.

“I think it will be a lot of fun to go there with three other teammates and play against some of the best players in the country,” he said. “There’s nothing to not be excited about.”

Head Coach Tom Orr said he was happy with the selections for the team.

“It was nice to hear the respect they have for our players,” Orr said. “We didn’t have a lot of GMHL wins, but we gave a lot of effort, and showed we had the skills and abilities.”

He also said he was delighted the league selected four players from the Hoosier team, as some teams in the GMHL only had three selections.

Orr said he thinks the GMHL team will do well in the tournament.

“They should be the clear favorite,” he said. “A lot of people expect good things out of them.”

Junior center Adam Logue will also be making his first all-star appearance for IU. He played all-state his junior and senior years in high school. He said he thinks his team will win out in the tournament next month.

“I don’t think we’ll lose a game,” Logue said. “The GMHL is so talented that I don’t think we’ll have a problem with anybody.”

To him, the game is just as important as any other.

“When you get selected you have to show that you were selected for a reason,” he said. “You don’t want to be screwing around out there.”

Logue also said he was honored to be selected to the team, and to have another chance to play with some of his teammates once more.

“I’m so excited,” he said. “Going with three of my best friends is great. I’m glad they got selected and I can’t wait.”
